Eight Domestic-Based Players Included in Uganda’s AFCON 2027 Squad

Uganda Cranes head coach Paul Put has selected eight locally based players for the team’s upcoming AFCON 2027 qualifying fixtures and friendly matches against DR Congo.

Uganda will travel to Tunisia on September 24 before hosting Libya on September 29 in the qualifiers. The Cranes will then play DR Congo away on October 2 and welcome the Leopards on October 5.

The domestic contingent features SC Villa goalkeeper David Lukwago and Hannnigton Ssebwalunyo, along with Jonathan Odongo of Entebbe UPPC, SC Villa’s Geofrey Lubanga Kane, and Vipers SC defender Hillary Mukundane.

NEC FC forward Richard Basangwa has also been called up, while SC Villa’s Frank Sebuufu and Herbert Achayi complete the locally based group. Veteran goalkeeper Denis Onyango is included in the squad as well.

Uganda will co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations with Kenya and Tanzania, with the tournament set to be staged in East Africa.
